Welcome 2018-2019

Image result for welcome to Year 1

In Blue 1 your teacher is Mrs Ahmed-Khan and your teaching assistant is Mrs Bache.

In Blue 2 your teachers will be Mrs Ashton on a Monday and Tuesday and Mrs Jacobs on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Your teaching assistant is Mrs Maddocks.

Miss Beresford and Mrs Waldron will also been supporting learning across both classes.

This term, our learning starts through our new topic ‘Around the World’ where we will be travelling around the world through many Julia Donaldson texts, starting with ‘The Snail and the Whale’. We have many exciting things planned for this exciting new topic!

Blue 1 PE days are Wednesday and Thursdays.

Blue 2 PE days are Tuesday and Thursdays.

Please make sure you have your PE kit in school at all times and that it is named. PE kits will be sent home at the end of every half term for washing. Remember to check that PE pumps still fit. We will do this too!

Water bottles:

Water bottles will be sent home on a Friday for washing and should be returned on a Monday. We will ensure that they are emptied and re-filled with fresh water every day during the week.

Please ensure that all uniform is clearly labelled. We always aim to re-unite lost items of clothing with their owners, but it can be very difficult if they are not labelled clearly.

Forest School:

st 4

In year 1, we are very lucky to be able to run Forest School sessions throughout the year. We will be starting forest school sessions shortly; you will be advised of the date in due course. For these sessions, the children will need wellies and warm outdoor clothing appropriate for Forest School sessions.

Our first priority is to ensure the children are settled into their new classes. By the end of the first two weeks, all children will have been given a reading book matched to their reading level. Children need to remember to change their reading books in the morning when they come into school if they have completed their reading. Also, parents need to write a short comment and sign their reading records each time they have read. We would recommend a minimum of 3 times a week.

This year we are really focussing on reading fluency and are encouraging children to increase the speed of their reading while maintaining an understanding of the story. We hope you find some fun new texts to read together.

We hope you are looking forward to starting your learning journey in Year 1 with us!
