Activities for you try at home this half term (Spring 1)

Ideas and activities for you to try at home:

  • Playing ‘I spy’ games to start introducing initial sounds to your child.
  • Practise saying alliterative phrases. e.g. ‘Peter Piper Picked a Peck…’ or even point out those that occur naturally e.g. ‘Daddy is driving’, ‘We’re going on a windy walk’ etc.
  • Practise singing Nursery rhymes, or take the well-known tunes and make up your own.
  • Start a rhyming string for your child and have them finish it e.g. cat, bat, rat … .
  • Play rhyming pairs and bingo (can be found online).
  • Read different rhyming books and pause for your child to finish the sentence with the correct rhyme. (Try books such as ‘The Gruffalo’, ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear’, ‘Room on a broom’, ‘Duck in the Truck’.
  • Finding numerals whilst out and about; on signs, ticket prices, on cards etc.
  • Encourage your child to use their pencil and mark make as much as possible- drawing pictures, doing their own writing and adding their name to their creations.
