Tricky Word Lists

Lots of parents have been asking to have a list of the 'tricky words' that the children are required to read in Reception.

Tricky words (or red words as they are often called) are words that we can not spell out phonetically. For example. when writing the word 'was', children often write 'woz'. Learning these words will help the children with all aspects of English. In reception, the children are expected to be able to read and spell the Phase 2 tricky words and 'he, she, me, we and be', from Phase 3.

tw1 MediumThe rest of Phase 3 and Phase 4 are to be read by the children, however, if you wanted to extend their learning, it would be brilliant if they could spell these words too!

Phase 5 is added here as an extension, as these are the words they will learn at the start of year 1.

If your child wants to show us how had they have been working on their tricky words, we would love to hear all about it.
